by Lee Kindler

One of the radical writing ideas activities, this activity involves cutting up a piece of writing into words or phrases and rearranging them to create a new text.

There are eight radical writing ideas activities designed to develop confidence in writing and ensure success. The activities are:

  • Using the cut-up technique
  • Write digital poetry
  • Fun with X
  • Write a meme
  • Origami mountain
  • Make a video photo story
  • Create a poetry map
  • Write with Google teleporter.

The activities could be used at the beginning of a lesson as a warm-up, as a break from more traditional text types, as an extension activity, or whenever students need something a bit different. They are designed to be used in the classroom although some lend themselves to visiting sites outside the school/provider.

Each activity has notes for teachers that include where to find examples of similar text types and ideas for classroom activities. Model texts are also provided, some are online and others are included as part of the activity.
